Getting Family Photos Can Be So Overwhelming...

I get it! I've gotten my own family photos taken before, and even though I'm a photographer, I still stressed out! So take this time to write down every single thing that makes you anxious before a session. It can really help.

Things that stress ME out:

So as a mom, a business owner, and a fiance, there are a ton of factors that stress me out; wardrobe being the number one thing. But there are other stressful situations, too: fussy babies, husbands not shaving, etc. So what I do before every session, even sessions I'm just shooting, I write down everything that has stressed me out in the past, and things that may happen, that I want to avoid. Writing everything out seriously helps you visualize and plan- I'm not kidding! If you already know what stresses you out, you'll be able to take care of it before it ends up happening.

Wardrobe

I can't tell you how many times I've had clients wait until the day before their session to ask me about what to wear! And of course I have no issue helping, but I strongly encourage you to get your outfits no later than 3 days prior to the session. This alleviates so much stress, and if the first store you end up going to doesn't have what you're looking for, then you're not going from store-to-store the day before you need these outfits!

Haircuts & Shaving

Not everyone needs a trim before their photos, but it's okay if you do! All I ask is that you not wait the day of your session. If you need to shave your face, I recommend doing so the day before; this gives enough time to get rid of any bumps or redness. If you're wanting to cut your hair, or shave it completely, I definetly recommend no later than a week before your session. Sometimes it doesn't turn out the way you want. And sometimes only the hair dresser is the only one who knows how to style your new-do. One weeks gives you plenty of time on how to figure out how to wear your new look!

Can You Think of Anything Else That May Stress You Out?

I'd love to hear about your pre-session jitters! Everyone is different, and so is every photo shoot that I have. I can't think of possibly everything that may stress someone out beforehand, but if you'd like to chat about your stressers, you can reach me here.
